A modular retreat for movement – robust and communal
In this short design exercise, a swimming hall is planned for the outdoor pool area in Gimbsheim. It is intended to provide additional capacity for smaller swimming programs during transitional seasons. The design should rely on simple, clear construction principles and a low-tech character that fundamentally shapes both the architectural concept and the overall appearance.
A modular, energy-efficient swimming hall for rural areas with a 12 × 5 m pool, designed for club and rehabilitation use. Flexible facade elements, simple construction, and a sustainable energy concept promote self-construction and low operating costs.
The model illustrates the clear, modular timber structure of the swimming hall. Repetitive elements make the construction principle visible: simple, robust, and flexible in assembly. The open layout gives the design both lightness and structure.
The images show a calm, understated architecture that blends harmoniously into the landscape. Diffused daylight and warm wooden elements create a clear, focused atmosphere – functional yet inviting. A place for both movement and relaxation.
